I began practicing yoga in 1999 and it was not long afterwards
that years of back pain caused by scoliosis began to disappear. I also noticed that while on my mat I
felt completely aware yet my mind seemed to be at ease. There began the inquiry into the
body/mind connection.
In 2006 I completed the 200hr teacher training at Yogaview,
Chicago, IL. This training focused
on the Anusara yoga method and the 3 A’s:
Attitude, Alignment and Action.
The movements or poses are coordinated with the breath. Meditation was also the foundation of
my training.
In 2010 I completed certification in iRest® Meditation with IRI
in San Rafael, CA. iRest based
upon yoga nidra or “sleep of the yogi”.
It is a practice of deep relaxation that can help bring relief to people
suffering from issues such as insomnia, stress, depression, chemical dependency
and trauma.
Enter Niyama Hot Yoga™!
My gratitude goes to Mac McHugh who graciously took me on as a trainee
in 2008. I call Niyama Hot my
“yang” side, finding the heat, the intensity and (of course) the music
incredibly energizing. Students
find the poses accessible while at the same time challenging. One of the greatest gifts I receive as
a teacher is witnessing a student’s sense of accomplishment at the end of a
very Hot practice!
I feel fortunate to have been given this honor of being a teacher
with the ability to share my passion for yoga and meditation. I owe gratitude to all of my teachers
who have generously shared not only their knowledge, but themselves, with
me. Gratitude also belongs to my
family who continue to support my journey. Gratitude to you, the student, for continuing to share with
me your Presence from which I receive limitless joy and inspiration.
