Teaceher's
Tracy Lawrence-Black

I have been physically active all my life, first with ballet, and later with running, aerobics, cycling and skiing. I started consistently practicing yoga about eight years ago. As I moved from Canada to Switzerland, and then to Washington D.C, not only did yoga provide me with an opportunity to meet fun people, but it helped me deal with the demands of working as a neonatologist and raising three children.

While living in D.C, I further developed my vinyasa yoga practice by completing the 200 hour teacher training program with Bentley Storm of Hot Yoga USA. I also had the opportunity to participate in workshops offered by Annie Carpenter, Neva Ingalls, and John Schumacher.

At the same time, I continued to explore the therapeutic benefits of hatha yoga as part of my Masters of Public Health degree at Johns Hopkins University. There is a whole literature reporting the benefits of yoga in a variety of conditions, from pregnancy to osteoarthritis!

Now in Chicago and embarking on my next career, I continue to combine my interest in physical and mental well-being with the practice of yoga. I am currently enrolled in a 500 hour teacher training program which focuses on adapting the practice of yoga to different bodies and different life stages. As part of this program, I study with Tias Little and Gabriel Halpern. I truly believe that one feels as old as one moves, and that through regular practice of asanas all of us can move with more ease and energy. The additional emphasis in yoga on breathing and quiet reflection enhances mental functioning, allowing each one of us to make the most of the adventure of living!
